Ok, I am back from the vet and I was diagnosed with a subluxing patella, actually bilateral subluxing patellas. In pug language, my kneecaps are moving out of their sockets -- ouch! The vet says either I tore or stretched some ligament-thingy in the past or the grooves that hold the kneecap in place are too shallow. Either way, I have it bad (I am a grade 3 out of 4) and I will need surgery. Holy cow! I thought I was too young to start having knee problems (Daddy has knee problems but he is way old!) . . .
So now I am on an anti-inflammatory and taking chondroitin-glucosamine. Daddy has to take that too for his joints, but the vet said that Daddy can't share my medicine.
Thank you to all the bloggers out there who were wishing me well. You guys are the bomb! My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday.

Oh no!!! Surgery is NOT the result we hoped for! However, we know how you feel- Dixie and Harley have that too. Harles has REALLY bad back legs but it's a different problem. Sophie has it the worse but it's not surgery grade yet. We will be thinking about you and praying for you!!!!!! We want a nice easy surgery for you.
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear about your knee!
I had to have BOTH my knees done and I'm on glucosamine and chondriotin, too!
You'll be back on your feets in no time. Just take it easy and enjoy the extra hugs and attention from your Mama and Papi while you recover.
I'm not sure if this will help prepare you for surgery but here are a couple pictures of my recovery and some notes about the aftermath of my surgeries.

Oh! I'm sorry to hear this but I'm sure this is something your vet can fix wonderfully and you will be back bringing home the bacon in no time! Keep us up to date!!! (HUG)
Frances Louise, we are sorry to hear that you need surgery. We are happy that your problem is something surgery can fix! Make sure you do everything the doctor says, and play up that sympathy vote BIG time. You know, let the parents carry you places, big sad puugy dog eyes, etc.

P.S. My blog is gone now, but I will be back soon, and I will let you know where to find me.
Oh Frances, I's so sorry to hear that you's gonna have to have the surgery. I's gonna be thinking about you and wishing you a very speedy recovery. Who knows when that sister of yours will start walking and you's gonna have to be able to run from her!!!
I'm sorry to hear you have to have surgery. I had the same problem and had both my knees done with a specialist in Seattle. The recovery was a bit rough but I can say everything has been great since and I'm now 9 years old! I'll be sending you lots of positive karma!
Frances, I am so sorry that you have to have surgery. We will be thinking about you and will check in often on Tuesday.
SassyDog told us about your blog...so we had to come right on over to sniff your butt.
Sorry about that knee..our mom just had her second proximal and distal open patellar realingment. Now besides being screwy in the head, she's got screws in her legs too!
We'll be sending your snorts, barks, and good vibes on Tuesday. WE hope that things go pawsitively perfectly!
Frances,
Don't worry...this is a very common surgery for small breed dogs like yourself. We do the surgery in our practice all the time and the little doglets do very well. Best of luck...
Your cousin Jayne
Well, I really hope that your surgery tomorrow goes well and that you feel all better when it is over! It's VERY important for a pug to be able to jump up onto the bed or the couch with ease!
Good luck!
