Happy 2009! and crabs!

Hello all, and Happy 2009! I just want to jump right into my favorite topic -- FOOD! And one of my favorite foods to play with and eat are crabs. Since my grandmother is here, Mommy decided to treat her to an Alaskan specialty -- crabs! No, not the king crabs that was made popular on The Deadliest Catch (several of whose captains were here in Ketchikan last year doing a promotional pub crawl), but the more delectable dungeness crabs.

About once every other week, some local fisherman will go crabbing in the Pacific and sell the crabs off his boat . . . super fresh and super cheap! Mommy bought two, which fed Mommy, Grandma, the rat, and me, AND we had leftovers for the next day.

Are you alive or dead? Yipes, he was alive . . . I just managed to get away from those pincers.

This crab was as big as the rat -- er, chihuahua -- and certainly weighed more! Actually, I think there is more meat in the crab than in the chihuahua

What an ugly mug. No wonder no one keeps them as pets.

Now this is more like it: cooked and ready to be eaten. Mommy put the ruler there so you can see how big it is (about 10 inches across)

That's a big crab! How do you cook it? Did you just eat it with butter?
