Can Pugs Fly?

My parents are planning on taking another trip (apparently that's what you are supposed to do in Alaska -- get away often). I threatened them that I would party the house down if they left me again . . . they got the hint. They are thinking of leaving me with Grandma while they are away; unfortunately, Grandma lives in Michigan. I don't know where Michigan is but apparently, they make cars there . . . at least, I think the factories are still there, if they haven't relocated to India or China.

So, Mommy and Daddy want to bring me on an airplane, but they are unsure if I will fit . . . I'm not sure what that means, although I have a sneaking suspicion they are maligning my weight . . . I wonder if any pug out there has flown on a plane before? If so, did you like it?

Hi Frances!
I have never flown on a plane before, but our families have another thing in common. Both my momma and dad are orginally from Michigan. Momma grew up in Southfield and went to U of M 86-90.
Dad grew up in west bloomfield and went to U of M 81-86. They actually did not meet until momma moved to colorado in 93. dad was already here for a couple of years. :) funny how things happen. anyways, you will like michigan if you go, especially if grandma takes you to ann arbor. it is a very cool city.

The only plane ride I have ever taken was on the Aire Ruby... no weight restrictions there! But mom saw posts on her pug message board about pugs flying under the seats (in the cabin) and it sounds like it worked out well. Good luck! Michigan is close to Minnesota so you should stop by! :)

We have never gone on an airplane. Where are you parents thinking of going now? Another place warm, I hope. I think you should stay home and we should have a huge house party. I like that idea.

Frances.... We live in Southwest Michigan!! Maybe you can come and visit us and you are welcome to come and stay with us anytime. Even if your Mom and Dad go away for a month we will keep you for as long as you want. But we think Alaska and Michigan are a long way from each other.

Sorry we have no info on the plane stuff. We are homebodies.

Friends of mine took their dog on a flight from Rochester to Chicago last month. She had to fit in her carrier under the seat during take-off and landing. Then she could be in the carrier on their lap. She is a Shitzu, so only like 10 pounds.

I have taken my pug Sequoia on plane rides from Virginia Beach, VA to Seattle, WA. We had one stop on the flights there and back. I let her out of the bag so she could eat or drink something (it was summer). She did great! One bark one time on take off (due to another dog in the cabin that barked!) and thats all.

They did not weigh her, but I was told she had to under 15lbs. They never checked my health certificate either that I went to get at the Vet saying she is good to fly. And they never measured my bag ( I used the larger one than they told me I could). I know she barely fit under the seat in front of me, but she didn't whine at all. It was a struggle if you sit by the window to get the bag under the seat though, try to avoid that.
They said no drugs, but my vet recommened half a tablet of benadryl to calm her nervous, I did that and she was fine. Good luck!

Microwave, eh?! Thanks for the tip! We'll try this out tonight!.. The oven was mainly nice to stand by, coz of the heat (its cold here in Wales!) a bit further along is where i stand as food drop guard!
